Bengaluru builds software for the world’s banks, retailers and carmakers. It’s also quietly building a sports tech scene of its own. The question is whether these startups can make the leap from amateur players, apps and academies to the professional teams and leagues where the biggest budgets, and the toughest standards, sit.

A city that funds builders

Bengaluru is still India’s startup capital, and it’s pulling further ahead. Its technology startups attracted $4.4 billion in funding during the first nine months of 2026, accounting for 43% of India’s total tech funding, up from 38% in the same period last year.

Sport has a real presence in that ecosystem. Bengaluru has 237 sports tech startups, of which 51 are funded and 14 have secured Series A or later funding. Global brands are noticing the city too: Nike announced a new campus here this month, as we wrote in Nike is building a campus in India.

But a closer look shows the challenge. A large share of the money has gone to fantasy, gaming and consumer fitness, not to the tools professional teams use to train, scout, officiate and engage fans.
